Scholarship Awards at Tin Man School, MaLiPo County 2025

To honor academic excellence and inspire students to strive for greater achievements, TingMan Elementary School in Liuhe Village, Malipo County, hosted a grand award ceremony for the 2024 to 2025 Gong Chang Ci Scholarship on June 24, 2025, at the school playground.
The event was attended by Director Chen from the County Border Development Service Center, Mayor Li of Liuhe Village, Principal Li and Vice Principal Lu of Liuhe Middle School, leaders from TingMan Elementary School, as well as all teachers and students, who gathered to witness this memorable occasion.
The Gong Chang Ci Scholarship, now in its tenth consecutive year at TingMan Elementary School, is funded by the Gong Chang Ci Foundation. The foundation raises funds through the sale of panda-themed slippers and public donation campaigns, with the mission of supporting academically outstanding yet financially disadvantaged students to successfully complete their education.
The ceremony opened in a solemn and celebratory atmosphere. Principal Li of TingMan Elementary School delivered the welcome message, followed by Party Secretary Tao announcing the list of scholarship recipients for the 2024 to 2025 academic year. A total of 62 exceptional students were honored with Special, First, Second and Third Prizes. Amid enthusiastic applause, awardees took the stage one by one to receive their certificates with the awards, and capture commemorative photographs with the presenters.
In his remarks, Director Chen extended sincere congratulations to the honorees and encouraged all students to follow their example—study diligently, pursue excellence, and strive to grow into well-rounded individuals of both talent and character.
Representing the recipients, outstanding student Li An Chun expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Gong Chang Ci and her family on behalf of all awardees. She pledged to cherish this honor, continue to work hard, and contribute to society through exceptional academic and personal achievements.
In his closing statement, Principal Li emphasized that the scholarship is not merely a material reward but also a powerful source of encouragement and inspiration. He urged all students to set ambitious goals, remain humble and grateful, and embrace their responsibilities in this new era, striving for success both in their studies and in life.
The ceremony concluded on a warm and touching note with a heartfelt performance by the students of TingMan Elementary School—a song and hand dance titled “Thank You from the Bottom of Our Hearts.”

Malipo County is located SouthEast of Yunnan Province in China. The population is about 270,000. The average household annual income is less than $1,000 per year. It is one of the poorest counties in China. Not far from Vietnam, this area has many minorities in this county and most of them do not have any education.

BRIDGE Foundation Donates

During July 2016 China’s trip I learned that Tin Man Elementary School in Liu He Village has approximately 40 girls and 40 boys boarding at the school. Boarding school is encouraged since these kids have to walk over 3 hours one way through the jungle to get to school. However, the school dormitory is poorly equipped without basic living supplies. These 80 kids do not have any blankets and mattress for winters. They normally sleep on bamboo sheets with several clothes on and huddle together to keep warm. While still in process of establishing The BRIDGE Foundation, I was able to raise enough funds to donate 80 sets of pillows, blankets, and mattresses to these kids before the frigid winter!!!
